Butler University’s Esports Park will open this fall.
Spokesperson Marc Apple said the multi-million dollar, 7,500-square-foot facility on campus will connect competitive and recreational gaming and adds a curriculum to support a new minor in esports communication.
“The esports facility has broadcast production capabilities in it for live events so we will be able to do podcasts and streaming of competitions,” Apple said.
It will have high-performance gaming PC’s and consoles, event and coworking spaces, a café, office areas for partner organizations and a studio and production room.
The university received a financial gift from an anonymous Butler graduate for the construction.
“Butler is the recipient of a $1-million-dollar gift from an anonymous donor that we will be able to help with the construction of our Esports Park.,” Apple said.
Butler first announced plans for the project in 2019, but pandemic restrictions put plans on hold until last December.
