Women’s Car Ball League (WCB) is Rocket League’s largest women’s league and provides female gamers a welcoming environment to play, improve, and of course, compete with one another.
Season 5 of the league kicked off in late 2022 to its highest-ever viewership, but was put on hiatus mid-season as league administrators Kansas City Pioneers faced difficulty in securing necessary sponsors to fund the competition. Today, esports organization Gamers First (G1) announced that they have acquired Women’s Car Ball League — reviving the series after it was put on pause at the end of January.
In addition to investing the necessary funds to relaunch the competition on March 18, G1 sources told Forbes that they are committing to expanding the league’s operations to include a player development program, a player profile content series, and a LAN world championship event.
“G1 remains committed to supporting gaming’s most underrepresented communities,” said Kenny Vaccaro, CEO of emerging esports org, Gamers First. “By partnering with the Women’s Car Ball League, we’re repurposing the meaningful impact we make on a single team’s roster, and applying that philosophy to hundreds of skilled and competitive women. It’s been time for women in esports to find their spotlight, and we’re going to give it to them.”
Naturally, organizations with teams competing in WCB are also thrilled by its resurrection: “The Women’s Car Ball League is a powerhouse community of strong female gamers with a passion to compete,” said John Krakum at Misfits Gaming Group, a WCB contender team. “We’re thrilled to see competition resume and stand ready to support all the ambitious plans Kenny and the team at G1 have in store. It’s going to be a great year for women’s Rocket League.”
The league’s competition format also reflects its mission to make esports more accessible for women; many WCB events begin with open qualifiers, meaning any players in the community have the chance to form a team and compete for prize money live on Twitch.
With 23 events planned for 2023, the WCB will provide plenty of crucial competitive experience to its players and open the door for their Rocket League Championship Series aspirations.
